Last month, we hosted the first-ever Varsity Girls National Tournament in partnership with the Women’s National Football Conference (WNFC) and Adidas. This invite-only event featured the best high school female flag football athletes in the United States competing for a championship title and the chance to be scouted by college scouts from across the country.

“It’s a great opportunity for women’s sports,” shared wide receiver, Brooke Anundson, from Gilbert, Arizona. “I’m excited to be here with fellow athletes who are trying to pave a way for women’s sports and football in general.”

The two day event started with pool play on Saturday, athletes competing on pre-assigned All Pro teams decked out in Gridiron Football gear and Adidas uniforms. Guest appearances included former NFL wide receiver, AJ Green. Within minutes, these proficient athletes were playing like seasoned teammates– with crisp passes, unbelievable runs, and pro-level sportsmanship.

Just over 24 hours later, the Championship game was held at The Star, world head quarters for the Dallas Cowboys. The match-up featured the Berry Blitzers and Tropical Twisters. Playing on the same field as NFL greats with spectators including members of the U.S. Women’s National Flag Football team, it was truly a moment for the history books.

The Tropical Twisters ultimately claimed the national title, along with some pretty epic awards. But even more, each participant helped accomplish Brooke’s goal– to continue paving the way for women in football. And we gotta say, the future looks incredibly bright for these inspiring athletes and the sport of flag football.
